" If planting a tree is the act of a universal optimist, it is also a good way of fostering connections between humans and reconnecting them to nature."
Jacques Rocher, President of the Yves Rocher Foundation and planter of trees
Hedge projects in France, a green renaissance in Ethiopia, Food Forests in The Netherlands, plantations and nurseries in southern India, protecting the natural habitat of the Monarch butterfly in Mexico... Take a world tour of our planting projects !
As living organisms and essential elements of a multitude of ecosystems on earth, trees deserve our respect. Yet in the last 30 years, about 420 million hectares of forest have disappeared from the face of the earth: the equivalent to one football field per second. Everywhere our soils are being exhausted and eroded, paying the price for the absence of trees.
100 million trees planted across the globe!
While some people are still thinking about the world of tomorrow, for many years powerful social forces have been rising up and are acting to stop deforestation with humility and courage. In 2007, alongside Wangari Maathai, an inspiring activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner, I made the commitment to plant a million trees.
As this year draws to a close, 100 million trees have now been planted by the Yves Rocher Foundation with the support of around 50 partner NGOs.
Ethiopia, India, Madagascar, France…Each country faces different problems, but none of these projects could function without the long-term involvement and commitment of their communities. Thousands of you volunteered to join us. I would like to thank each and every one of you. Let’s carry on planting, together!
